Lubbock County Traffic Court Records
Fine-only Class C traffic matters in Lubbock County land in one of two places: the county's four justice courts, or the municipal courts of Lubbock, Slaton, Shallowater, Idalou, Wolfforth, and other incorporated cities. Whoever issued the citation keeps the case record. A city ticket does not automatically reach the District Clerk or County Clerk. Each precinct clerk maintains the JP records for that precinct. Jurisdiction follows the ticket. There is no single county-wide traffic database. City police citations usually go to that city's municipal court. A county or state-issued matter is different. It may go to the named JP precinct instead. The docket can reflect the charge, plea, setting, payment, deferred result, trial, warrant entry, or final disposition. What you see depends on each court's system.
Three Lubbock County Ticket Systems
Start by settling which system holds your ticket. Lubbock County runs a Tyler citation search labeled for the District Clerk. The City of Lubbock has its own separate Tyler portal. Wolfforth runs a third. Slaton, Shallowater, and Idalou offer no separate public docket search. Those clerks handle lookups directly.
| Citation source | Starting channel | Fallback |
|---|---|---|
| County or JP matter | County citation search, if covered | Identify precinct and call its clerk |
| City of Lubbock | Lubbock municipal citation portal | Municipal Court, 806-775-2473 |
| Wolfforth | Wolfforth citation portal | Court line, 806-855-4127 |
| Slaton, Shallowater, or Idalou | City court instructions | Municipal clerk counter, mail, or phone |
Looking Up a Traffic Ticket
The Tyler form offers several search modes. Each one demands its own combination of fields. Use only credentials printed on your own citation, and never put a Social Security number, date of birth, or driver-license number into a public note or a copied search result.
- Read the citation and identify the issuing court, city, or JP precinct.
- Open that court's official citation portal and choose one search mode.
- Try the citation or case number first, preserving punctuation shown on the ticket.
- If the item is not posted, call the issuing clerk or visit the counter rather than switching courts at random.
- Record the appearance date, plea status, setting, and amount exactly as the court displays them.
The county citation portal also supports name, vehicle, driver-license, Social Security, and business-name searches. No field is universally required. The exact behavior of each mode varies, so try what your citation gives you.
Lubbock Citation Search Fields
The official county citation search lays out these field families in its public form. Treat it as a citation and payment tool. It is not a substitute for the full court file.
| Search mode | Visible inputs |
|---|---|
| Case number | Case-number text field |
| Driver's license | License number, issuing state, and date of birth |
| Vehicle | Plate number, state, and another vehicle field |
| Name | First name, last name, and date of birth |
| Business name | Business-name text field |
The official portal keeps the citation lookup separate from the general case index.

No result? Check the court named on the ticket, then call the correct JP clerk.
How to Find Your Traffic Court Date
The response or appearance date printed on the citation is your first reference point. Still, check it against the issuing court's current record. A setting on the docket means activity was scheduled. It does not prove a hearing actually happened. A reset, continuance, or courtroom change can appear after the ticket was printed.
| Citation or case number | Use the identifier printed by the court, such as [citation number]; no universal local format was published |
|---|---|
| Issuing court | The named municipal court or JP precinct that holds the file |
| Date and time | The appearance, plea, trial, or other setting shown by the court |
| Location | The court address or courtroom currently assigned |
| Status | Pending, disposed, paid, deferred, reset, or warrant only when officially shown |
The county posts no single calendar covering every JP court. Confirm any future setting with the clerk. That matters most when the record looks stale or the citation was just issued.
Lubbock County Deadlines Differ by Court
Local courts do not share one response clock. City of Lubbock rules require an appearance within 12 days, in person or by mail. A phone call or email does not count there. Shallowater's handout counts 12 days inclusive of weekends and holidays. Slaton tells drivers to contact the court no earlier than two days after issuance and by the ticket date, usually ten days.
Use the printed deadline: Follow the issuing court's current instructions. A deadline from another Lubbock County city does not change the date on your citation.
Shallowater's current web information and an older handout also disagree on Wednesday court time and location. Call 806-696-4300 before you drive there. For Slaton, the court line is 806-828-2000, extension 3, and the published email is court@slaton.texas.gov.
Pay or Contest a Ticket
Paying and contesting are not two flavors of the same step. City of Lubbock instructions state it plainly. Full payment is a conviction. A not-guilty plea, by contrast, starts the court process toward a judge or jury setting. The county FAQ says the same thing. A person pleading not guilty has the right to a judge or jury trial. Prepare papers, photographs, and exhibits for that process. Get subpoena instructions from the court.
| Paying | Contesting |
|---|---|
| May enter a guilty or no-contest plea and final disposition | Requires a timely not-guilty plea and a later trial or hearing |
| Available online, by mail, or in person where that court permits | Use the court's written or in-person plea route |
| Check whether an eligible deferral or course option is selected before payment | Confirm the setting and instructions directly with the clerk |
Do not ignore a missed setting: Contact the issuing court at once. A warrant or added consequence should be reported only when the court confirms it in the case.
Lubbock Ticket Options Need Approval
Deferred disposition and a driving safety course are eligibility-based options that a court must approve. Nothing about a ticket makes them automatic. The Lubbock County FAQ describes a deferral of up to one year with no moving violation anywhere in Texas. Possible course or insurance terms may apply. Its listed exclusions cover serious speeding, passing a school bus, a construction-zone worker present, and leaving an accident. City of Lubbock rules add exclusions. They cover CDL holders, some construction-zone matters, current deferrals, and specified high-speed or accident offenses. The defensive-course rules carry requirements. Drivers need a valid Texas license or permit, proof of insurance, and no course in the prior 12 months. A portal may show an option only when a citation appears eligible. The court still makes the controlling determination.
Traffic Court Record vs Driving Record
The court's citation file and the state driving record are two different records. Two different offices hold them. The distinction is simply about routing a request. The Lubbock County municipal or JP clerk maintains the court case. The Texas Department of Public Safety maintains the state driving record.
| Court traffic record | State driving record | |
|---|---|---|
| Custodian | Issuing municipal or JP court | Texas Department of Public Safety |
| Shows | Citation, plea, settings, payment, and disposition | State-maintained driver history and reported actions |
| Request route | Court portal, clerk, mail, phone, or counter | Official DPS record-request channel |
Lubbock Online Payment Changes the Total
The number a portal quotes may exceed the ticket itself. Lubbock's city pages list a 2.5 percent debit or credit card fee. They add a $1.50 online convenience fee, effective October 1, 2024. County rules add a wrinkle. Any payment plan running past 30 days picks up a $15 state fee. You must sign it at the courthouse. Check the city's important-information page before you pay. It carries the current online payment warning and transaction terms.

Pause before you click pay. Confirm the plea the portal enters for you, any deferral or course option shown, the full charge, and which court owns the ticket.
Copies and Fees
No complete official fee schedule exists for JP or municipal traffic copies here. Ask the issuing clerk what a copy costs and what certification adds. The District Clerk's copy rates only apply when that office truly holds the file. Don't assume them for a city or JP record. Ask instead.
| Item | Fee status | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| Municipal plain copy | Not located in official sources | Ask the issuing city clerk |
| JP plain or certified copy | Not located in official sources | Ask the named precinct clerk |
| City of Lubbock card payment | 2.5% card fee | Confirm the displayed total |
| City of Lubbock online payment | $1.50 convenience fee | Confirm current notice before paying |
| County agreement over 30 days | $15 state fee | Sign the agreement at the courthouse |
When a Lubbock Ticket Is Missing
A blank search result does not mean no case exists. Maybe the citation is too new. Maybe you searched the wrong municipal portal. Or the ticket sits with a JP precinct. Or your details don't match the court's record. For a missing city citation, Lubbock says to call 806-775-2473.
County matters go to the precincts. JP1 sits in Room 110 at 904 Broadway, phone 806-775-1547. JP2 is Room 113 at 806-775-1554. JP3 is Room 111 at 806-775-1328. JP4 is Room 121 at 806-775-1540. Keep the citation number, issuing agency, name spelling, and rough issue date at hand. Skip sending extra personal identifiers over ordinary email.
Smaller city courts have their own channels. Idalou posts 806-892-2531 and court@cityofidalou.com, plus a drive-through window for payment and citation questions. Wolfforth takes court and payment calls at 806-855-4127, 302 Main Street. Slaton works through its clerk, mail, and a night box. Each serves its own city records. So treat them separately rather than as one Lubbock County docket search.
On the phone, ask if the citation has posted. Ask whether your number format is right. Ask what counts as an appearance. And ask whether a new court date replaced the printed one. Write the answer down. Then check the official docket again. A missing portal row is not proof of dismissal, sealing, payment, or a clean file.
